I’m Michael Allen Monk, the husband of Kelly Monk and father our six children. I graduated from Auburn University in 1995 in mechanical engineering and received an MBA from the University of Alabama in 1998. I grew up around construction and apprenticed with a high-end custom home builder in Birmingham before Kelly and I formed Michael Allen Homes.

Since the inception of the company in 2001, we have focused on making sure the home-building experience is an enjoyable one from beginning to end. As the company has grown, we have built an incredible team of superior people who share our passion for the home-building experience.

Simply put, we are good at it and enjoy what we do. I believe there are many things we could each do but only a few things we are well suited for. Building homes is what we know, and pleasing our clients day in and day out is what drives us. The blessings we have received over the last decade are confirmation we are doing the right thing.

I am certain there are many fine builders in the area who could build you a nice home. Many of them are my peers and I value their friendships. I strongly believe, however, we offer the greatest value as it relates to your new home. We place a high emphasis on maintaining an unsurpassable level of style and quality. We work with our suppliers and sub-contractors to keep costs in line, and we value our relationship with you – the client. I am thankful for the relationships we have developed and maintained with past clients.

Both. We own lots in subdivisions that act as “inventory” for potential clients. We also contract to build homes for people on lots they currently own or are planning to purchase. We can also work with you to locate a lot that meets your specific needs in a desirable location.

There are a number of different routes we can take to obtain the perfect plan for you and your lot. We have a plans gallery of homes that we‘ve built before. You are welcome to look through and choose from one of these plans, or we can recommend websites for you to browse. If you find something you like but don’t love, we have the ability to modify plans, in-house, to tweak any plan to your specific needs and desires. Finally, we have working relationships with several architects and home plan designers who can work with you to design and draw a set of custom plans tailored to you and your needs.

We have developed excellent relationships with several local lenders and mortgage companies. Depending on the situation, we can handle the construction financing on our end and have a traditional closing at the end of the project, or we can set you up with a local lender to create a construction loan that is just right for you.

That’s always a tough question to answer as many factors need to be taken into consideration. As a rule of thumb, a 3,500 sq. ft. house, built on a conventional foundation, takes about 10-12 months to complete.

We pride ourselves on having clear communication with our clients every step of the way. Yes, we provide a standard 1 year Builders Warranty and many of our materials come with their own extended warranties as well.

We generally have several homes in various stages of construction at any given time. We would be glad to walk you through them and answer any questions along the way. In addition, many or our clients allow us to show their personal homes for you to see the finished product – a home that is lived in.

We have an in-house Interior Design Team that assists our clients in the selection process for their homes. If you already have a designer you prefer to work with, we will be glad to coordinate with him/her as well. In addition, our vendors have experience with the selection process – helping you to pick materials, finishes, & colors appropriate for your home, and in keeping with your specific taste.
